"Tomb raider" Taiwan steal jewelry worth over 500,000 dollars

Moscow (Reuters)-Taiwan Police have arrested a suspected grave robbers who holds gold jewelry valued at more than 500,000 US dollars, by making a hole in the coffin, the news agency said Taiwan, the Central News Agency.

The alleged robber, identified only by the nickname Cheng, were arrested in the western part of the County of Yunlin, Friday, after his car was caught on surveillance cameras at a cemetery in raids last month.

Police said Cheng had stolen jewelry from about 500 tombs dating back to the year 2009.

He dug the grave at night and make a hole in the coffin right at the wrist of the corpse to pick up rings and bracelets of gold.

According to Chinese custom, jewelry or valuables belonged to someone who died was buried with his body.
