Myanmar open diplomatic relations with Armenia

Yangon (Reuters)-Myanmar has opened diplomatic relations with Armenia on the level of ambassadors, according to the official media Friday.

Armenia is the first country to establish relations with Myanmar in 2013 after Malawi, Bhutan, Luxembourg, Latvia, Estonia and Iceland in 2012.

Xinhua report, a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations was signed between the Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations and the Permanent Representative of Armenia the Abkhaz in New York on 31 January.

The establishment of diplomatic relations with Armenia has made the number of countries in the world that has a relationship with Myanmar reached 111, since Myanmar regained independence in 1948.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar in his statement mentioned so far, Yangon has set up embassies in 30 countries and two permanent missions in New York and Geneva, in addition to the four Consulate General in Hong Kong, Kunming and Nanning (China) and Calcutta (India).

Meanwhile, 28 countries have their embassies in Myanmar. In addition, China and India have respectively set up consulates-general in Mandalay, Myanmar's second largest city, while Switzerland in Yangon and Bangladesh in Sittway.
