Officials investigate missing ammunition from Fort Bragg

FAYETTEVILLE N.C - Fort Bragg officials say that an investigation is underway into the disappearance of 14 000 cartridges at the base of the army.

Staff Sergeant Joshua Ford, a spokesman for the 82nd Airborne Division, explains ammunition have disappeared from the team to fight against the 1st Brigade of Fort Bragg.

The observer Fayetteville reported that Ford believes that the ammunition was taken to the overnight Tuesday. The team of the 1st Brigade was placed on lockdown for several hours Wednesday evening, while officials conducted a search.

Missing munitions can be used in an M-4 or M-16 assault rifle.

Ford said the 82nd Airborne Division and military police are taking the issue seriously and that "any quantity of ammunition which disappears" has "got to be accounted for."
