Sangakkara batted almost 11 hours for his eighth Test double century Sri Lanka secured a first Test draw with Pakistan in Abu Dhabi after a marathon innings from Kumar Sangakkara. Sangakkara's 211 in a near 11-hour spell at the crease in Abu Dhabi, and a century from Prassana Jayawardene, put paid to Pakistan's hopes of victory.
Sri Lanka begun the final day on 298-5, looking to overcome a first-innings deficit of 314.
After they were bowled out for 483 after tea, Pakistan reached 21-1 before a draw was agreed.
Sangakkara arrived at the crease on the third evening and faced 431 deliveries in 651 minutes before he was finally trapped lbw by the part-time leg-spin of Azhar Ali.
In scoring his eighth Test score of 200 or more, the left-hander moved into third place in the all-time list of double centurions.

Sangakkara also had his share of fortune on the final day, avoiding being run out when the hosts threw to the wrong end.
As it was, he reached his double century after just over 10 hours at the crease when he flicked Pakistan pace bowler Aizaz Cheema down to fine leg for his 18th boundary.
Wicketkeeper Jayawardene, with whom the former skipper added 201 for the sixth wicket, hit 12 boundaries en route to his fourth Test century before being caught behind off Aizaz Cheema.
From there, Sri Lanka's remaining wickets fell cheaply in the final session as Gul finished with 4-64.
With Pakistan left with an unlikely target of 170 in a maximum 20 overs to win the match, hands were shaken after 10 overs.
The second match in the three-Test series starts in Dubai on 26 October, with the final game played in Sharjah, beginning on 3 November.
England play Pakistan in three Tests, four one-day internationals and one Twenty20 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi during January and February.
Sri Lanka then host England for two Tests in March and April.
