India 271-8 (50 overs) beat England 176 (37 overs) by 95 runs

England's Ian Bell could not make an impact during a shocking collapse England crashed to a 5-0 series whitewash against India after a shocking collapse led to a 95-run defeat in the final match in Kolkata.

Chasing 272, openers Craig Kieswetter (63) and Alastair Cook (60) made a flying start with a 129-run stand.

But the tourists lost five wickets for 12 runs and all 10 for 47 as they were skittled for 176 in only 37 overs, with spinner Ravindra Jadeja taking 4-33.

Mahendra Dhoni's aggressive 75 not out helped India to 271-8 in their innings.

Cook and Kieswetter breezed to their first 50 stand of the tour and brought up the century partnership after only 16.1 overs as they negotiated India's early introduction of spin.

Their 129-run stand was the highest first-wicket partnership in a one-day international at Eden Gardens, but the match was soon turned on its head.

Cook was the first man out - bowled by a Varun Aaron delivery that kept low - and Kieswetter promptly followed, lbw to Jadeja's arm ball.

Ian Bell, back in the side because of an injury to Kevin Pietersen, became the third victim in 17 balls, out for two after outside-edging Ravinchandran Ashwin's carrom ball to Dhoni.

Three deliveries later, Jadeja tossed up a tempter that Jonathan Trott nicked to Virat Kohli at slip to depart for five.

The nightmare spell continued when Jonny Bairstow departed for two, playing against the turn of Jadeja and sending the ball looping to Ajinkya Rahane at backward point.

Incredibly, things got even worse as the part-timer spinners took scalps. First, Suresh Raina bowled Ravi Bopara for four after he again miscued a sweep, leaving England in turmoil on 155-6.

Then came the soft dismissal of Tim Bresnan for a four-ball duck in the next over. Bresnan chipped to cover from the leg-spin of Kolkata local Manoj Tiwary, who was selected in place of Parthiv Patel.

The innings was close to completion when a biting delivery from Jadeja was edged by Samit Patel (18) to Dhoni and Ashwin trapped Stuart Meaker lbw for one with a quicker ball.

Steven Finn was the last man to go, having made just two when he top-edged an Ashwin carrom ball that was caught by Dhoni.

Earlier, India had been inserted in humid conditions and made a comfortable 80-run, opening stand.

Gautam Gambhir was let off on 25 as he edged Meaker and Kieswetter - having an inconsistent tour with the gloves - missed the chance.

Finn, England's outstanding bowler in the series, once more swung the momentum with a double-wicket maiden in the 18th over. Gambhir (38) again chopped on a moving Finn delivery then Kohli (0) was bowled to one that nipped back.

England picked up a third wicket in 10 balls when Kieswetter hung on to an edge by Rahane (42) off Bresnan. Finn should soon have had his third wicket but Graeme Swann - brought in for Scott Borthwick - dropped a simple, second-slip catch after Raina, on one, edged.

Raina went on to construct useful stands with Tiwary and Dhoni as India re-built. Tiwary scored 24 before nicking Meaker to Kieswetter then Raina was run out by Bopara for 38, leaving India 162-5 after 36.5 overs.

Dhoni kept up his superb form against England by giving India late acceleration, including four brutal sixes.

Patel picked up the late wickets of Jadeja, Ashwin and Praveen Kumar as they attempted ambitious shots, but in the end India's 271 was more than enough.

The whitewash made partial amends for the disastrous tour of England in July-September, when India were routed 4-0 in the Test series to lose the world number one ranking and were beaten 3-0 in the one-dayers.

India won this series despite the absence of seven players, including star batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who were part of the team that won the World Cup final against Sri Lanka in Mumbai in April.

England have made three changes and Scotland six to their starting line-ups for their crucial World Cup Group B match in Auckland on Saturday.

For England, Delon Armitage replaces Mark Cueto on the left wing with Matt Stevens and Courtney Lawes also picked.

Scotland, who must win for a realistic hope of advancing, recall captain Alastair Kellock at lock and Euan Murray at tight-head prop.

Richie Vernon, Mike Blair, Simon Danielli and Joe Ansbro are also in.

Jim Hamilton, Geoff Cross, Kelly Brown, Rory Lawson, Graeme Morrison and Nick De Luca are the players to make way, while a further positional change sees Sean Lamont move from wing to inside centre.

The England changes, despite the dropping of Cueto who scored a hat-trick as England beat Romania 67-3 in their previous match, had been widely predicted.

Stevens replaces Alex Corbisieroto at loose-head prop having recovered from injury and Lawes takes Tom Palmer's place in the second row after serving a two-match ban.

"We thought Courtney was playing very well," said manager Martin Johnson. "He hasn't played for two weeks but we are confident he will come and perform for us."

Of the decision to pick Armitage over Cueto - who drops out of the 22 - Johnson added: "We've said all the way through if Delon's playing well and with form he's a Test player.

No favourite in this match, says Jonny Wilkinson

"Mark's injury was a factor [he had a back problem earlier in the tournament]. He's probably a game short of being back to where he should be."

However, while England need only a losing bonus point to be all-but certain of progressing, Scotland need a clear victory to guarantee their own place in the quarter-finals, a requirement reflected in coach Andy Robinson's selection.

Kellock is relishing England test

Kellock was omitted from the team to play Argentina, despite being named tournament captain in August, and comes in for Hamilton, who has been struggling with a knee injury.

Now scrum-half Lawson, the captain against Georgia and Argentina, must face up to being outside the matchday 22, with Blair preferred ahead of the Gloucester number nine and Chris Cusiter on the bench.

"It is important to have a running threat at nine," explained head coach Andy Robinson. "We felt Rory moved the ball around well in the games he has played but Mike, and Chris coming off the bench, actually add that running threat. In the way we want to ask questions of England, we need that at nine."

"It's a risk but it's a very bold selection by Scotland. What Andy Robinson says is that they have gone for real speed. He has always had this team in mind for the England game knowing he wants to play the game at pace. It is a gamble but Scotland have got to be brave. Vernon replaces Brown at number eight and Murray, who performed well against Georgia, is back in for Cross in the front row after being unavailable for last Sunday's match in Wellington because of his religious beliefs.

Behind the scrum Lamont switches from the wing to inside centre, while Danielli takes Lamont's place on the wing, with Ansbro joining the Scarlets back in the midfield.

The permutations for the match are complex but if Scotland lose by more than seven points - hence failing to gain a losing bonus point - they are out of the World Cup.

However Robinson insisted they would still have to play a patient game, adding: "We can't go on the pitch and chase the game, we've got to build ourselves into the game.

"We're not playing Argentina, we're playing England. It's a completely different game.

Meaker was born in South Africa in January 1989 Surrey fast bowler Stuart Meaker is a surprise selection for England's limited-overs tour of India.

The Natal-born paceman, 22, took 44 County Championship wickets in 2011, while James Anderson has been rested.

Skipper Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen return after being rested for the recent home ODI series against India.

The party will fly out on 3 October to play five one-day internationals and a single Twenty20 match.

On his call-up Meaker said: "I wasn't expecting it so soon. It was definitely in my sights in the near future, it just happened to come sooner than I thought.

"I've been given a chance to show what I have got. I'll work very hard when I'm out there and hopefully they will see that hard work and it will give them confidence to potentially give me a game.

"It's a very proud day for me. This has been something I've been looking forward to since playing for Surrey as a young man."

On what he can bring to the squad, the Surrey man added: "I'm lucky because I've got a great deal of natural pace, just in the way I bowl and my action. In one-day cricket, I've worked hard at my variations.

"I've got a couple of slower balls which will hopefully come into play on the sub-continent."

Eoin Morgan has been ruled out of the tour after having shoulder surgery but Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell return after missing last week's Twenty20 internationals against West Indies.

National selector Geoff Miller said: "This squad contains an exciting balance of experienced international cricketers along with some very talented youngsters who can play the high-quality limited-overs cricket needed to challenge India."
