The Census Bureau reported last month that the poverty rate of the nation continues to grow and the number of people in poverty in the United States is the highest on record. How this population swells - disproportionately so in some Places - and jobs remain scarce, limiting tight State and local budgets, what can be done to help America's poorest.
Census data show that some of the highest poverty of the country, with four metropolitan areas in the Lone Star State and three in California among the top have represented the u-Bahn areas in Texas and California 10, as cities in Michigan, Florida and Alabama. Meanwhile, the cities with low poverty rate are also scattered. Six of these u-Bahn areas are in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, and the rest of the West, Midwest, and Alaska and Hawaii are scattered.

In fact, factors other than region seem u-Bahn areas of low or high poverty rates take into account. Unemployment is in an obvious article. Nine of the 10 most important metropolitan areas with the lowest rates of poverty also currently have rates below the national average, Manchester, n.h, the the way with 5.2 percent unemployment as August. Likewise, 8 of the 10 cities with the highest poverty rate have unemployment rates above the national average and in the two-digit.

Three capitals and Washington are among the 10 cities with the lowest poverty rates. Although revenue levels can wax and wane, a Government may disappear not simply in the same way, a town house market may be drying up. Government will pay, often competitive wages jobs in. "In particular for conurbations, where employment rates have risen [2010] or particularly government employment increases - lower rates of poverty," says Yiyoon Chung, post-doctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin Institute for poverty. "I think the Government is an important factor."

This is however at the risk of still more belt-tightening continues to increase in poverty, such as the Government of the local level. If the public sector once save the shedding jobs still, poverty can rise in coming months and years.
The data correspond to the hard realities of racial and ethnic correlations with poverty. According to the United States Census Bureau, the poverty rate for black (27.4 percent) and Hispanic (26.6%) are particularly high especially in comparison to non-Hispanic white (9.9 percent) and Asians (12.1 percent).
"Looking at the entire census data for poverty, certainly there are differences in the racial effects of poverty," says Maria Foscarinis, Director of the national law Center on homelessness and poverty. "As African Americans [and] Hispanics tend to, are over-represented in poverty figures, compared to Caucasian people." This means that "one of the factors that probably accounts for [high rates of poverty] would be to ask," she says. In fact, Brownsville, Texas; McAllen, Texas; El Paso, Texas; Fresno, California; Visalia, California; and Bakersfield, California metropolitan areas all have high concentrations of Hispanics, while the Metro area of Manchester, n.h.; Des Moines, Iowa. All have high concentrations of white York, Pennsylvania, and Honolulu has the highest concentration of people who studied the conurbations as Asian all identify.
This of course means no causal relationship or that cities with large Hispanic or black population necessarily high poverty rates; Washington, D.C., for example, the large African American population, has a relatively low poverty rates. But overall this trend you underline strongly divided in national racial and ethnic trends in poverty.
